Have you happened to watch Miss Congeniality? Well even if you did not you will probably cringe at my latest faux pas/exploit.
Well as I was the only Italian enrolled in the class of 08, I HAD to take part in the opening ceremony where a flag bearing procession takes place in front of the School's Dean, President and Academia. I was obviously the flag bearer for Italy. I asked if I could represent the UK instead (just so that my friends in London could have a laugh at my expenses), but to my dismay they would not let me...even here people have worked out that I am a phony British!
So here i am all dressed up in my national costume (before your mind wonders...what were you thinking????! Just a suit, no pastoral/bucolic attire!) and waiting to march in front of the President and mutter some words about my country to the benefit of the audience. Well everyone is going through a number of platitudes and saying what beautiful mountains and beautiful beaches his/her country has (well everyone apart from someone from a republic from the Russian Federation...which apparently hasn't got much). And then there is me! I misjudge the power of the microphone and boom " Ciao Everyone! You all probably know a thing or two about my country. I will tell you something you might not know. Italy as a member of the United Nations Security Council is currently asking for a worldwide moratorium on the death penalty. Please come and visit my country". Some people clapped, the majority are probably still wondering if they heard me right. Considering that I am in a room with LOTS of people from China, US and Russia, I think I am off to a splendid start in my relationship with my fellow class mates.
More over the next few days.
